i'm knotted up inside so much i'll never untangle it
but rather easier to take a knife and to mangle it
leaving just the ends, unconnected and dripping
with twisted chord in grip, least there's less of me slipping

and any rot tired by wrought wire with fray
and veins across states in a state of decay
could find ease in severing the several branches of the tree instead of nourishing the bed until it leaves

the light, as it rises above the hills, was chasing me
